Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has pledged to resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure victory in the state during the 2027 general elections.
Okpebholo made the bold declaration on Friday during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), where he expressed strong confidence in Tinubu’s chances, citing ongoing development projects across Edo State.
According to the governor, Edo residents will show their appreciation to the president through their votes in 2027.

“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes,” Okpebholo said.
“The various projects across the state will speak for him, and he will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor.”
He added that Tinubu’s re-election would be a smooth ride in the state, stressing that his political approach is rooted in grassroots engagement rather than intimidation.
“There’s no election here for him. I’m a politician who understudied Tony Anenih. My style of politics is not thuggery but grassroots,” he said.
The governor’s remarks have since sparked reactions across political circles, with many viewing the statement as one of the strongest public endorsements of Tinubu ahead of the 2027 polls.
