• Reaffirms Loyalty to PDP
Former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has firmly dismissed speculations suggesting he may defect to either the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Saraki, who served as President of the 8th Senate and remains a leading figure in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, made his position clear during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
Addressing the rumours, the former Kwara State Governor emphasized his consistency and independence in politics, stating that his track record speaks for itself.
“I think my antecedents and my political career have shown that I am not a follower; I lead and I am very clear where I stand. I am not someone that will say something in the afternoon and say something else in the evening. What I believe in, I stand by and take whatever comes with it,” he said.
Saraki noted that his relatively low political activity in recent times may have fueled speculation about his next move. He explained that unlike previous election cycles where he actively contested, including his 2023 presidential bid, his current stance aligns with his party’s zoning arrangement for 2027.
According to him, the PDP’s decision to zone the presidency to the South for the next election cycle influenced his position, contributing to what some may have misinterpreted as political silence.
He also addressed claims linking him to the ADC, clarifying that he was never part of the movement and had publicly distanced himself from it from the outset.
“When ADC started, as you saw, I was not part of them, and I made it clear that I was not going to be there. And those suggesting I was going to join APC, I also made it clear that I would stay in PDP,” he added.
Reiterating his commitment, Saraki concluded that his political future remains firmly rooted in the PDP, putting to rest ongoing speculation about any imminent defection.
