Kwara-born political juggernaut and Chairman of Crystal Group of Companies, Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM), has called on the government authorities to implement practical and result-driven policies to address the nation’s growing unemployment challenge.
In a statement shared via his verified Facebook page on Monday, the respected politician who also holds the traditional title of Wakilin Ilorin Emirate, lamented the increasing number of educated youths forced to rely on social media for survival due to a lack of job opportunities.
He wrote, “The youth are the fulcrum upon which any progressive society rests, yet we continue to leave them idle and frustrated. Despite their pursuit of quality education, many now turn to social media just to make ends meet. Their certificates have become worthless in a system that favours the elite, while the less privileged scramble for crumbs.”
The business tycoon described the country’s economic environment as unfriendly to businesses that should be driving job creation.
“Businesses that should be creating jobs are suffocating under harsh fiscal policies. In such an economy, how do we expect employment to thrive? The student loan initiative is undoubtedly a step forward but beyond school, what future awaits our youths?”, he queried.
Hon. MM concluded by urging those at the helm of affairs to go beyond policies on paper and take bold, actionable steps.
“Invest in youth empowerment, create an enabling environment for entrepreneurship, and support small businesses to thrive. A nation that ignores its youth ignores its future,” he stated.
