President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has replaced Dr. Muheeba Dankaka with Ayo Hulayat Omidiran as the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
The move comes barely 24 hours after the president had reappointed Dankaka for another term, a decision now reversed. Though the presidency did not provide official reasons for the sudden U-turn, political observers suggest it may be linked to the job racketeering scandal that trailed Dankaka’s first tenure.
Dr. Dankaka, who assumed office in 2020, faced allegations of irregular recruitment and misuse of office during her time at the helm of the commission. The controversies drew public criticism and parliamentary scrutiny, though she denied any wrongdoing.
Her successor, Ayo Hulayat Omidiran, is a known supporter of President Tinubu and a former member of the House of Representatives, where she represented Ayedaade/Irewole/Isokan Federal Constituency of Osun State. Omidiran, who also served on FIFA’s Women’s Committee, is expected to bring legislative and administrative experience to the role.
The FCC, established to promote fairness in federal appointments and distribution of resources, has often been in the spotlight for transparency and compliance issues. Omidiran’s appointment is seen as part of the president’s effort to reposition the commission.
