The One Kwara Agenda has called for strategic collaboration with online media practitioners to promote a positive and unifying narrative across the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) on Saturday, the Convener, Comrade Femi Akinade Adetola, said the civic advocacy group is determined to counter what it described as growing polarization along ethnic lines.
Adetola noted that Kwara’s long-standing values of tolerance and mutual respect were gradually being eroded. He recounted a personal experience of finding shelter with a family from a different background, stressing that people should not be judged by ethnicity, wealth, or religion.
He explained that the group is not a political party but a civil advocacy movement.
“We are development advocates and solutions activists, focused on civic engagement. We believe that a united Kwara – one that builds bridges and brings everyone together – is the foundation for all forms of progress, whether economic, social, or otherwise.”
The Vice Convener, Comrade Patrick Adewumi, added that Kwara’s diverse ethnic composition has created an identity challenge, as the state is often not fully regarded as either northern or southern Nigeria. He said this makes it vital to project Kwara as a hub of talent, innovation, and progressive ideas.
In his response, ASKOMP Chairman, Mr Shola Salihu Taofeeq, welcomed the delegation and assured them of the association’s commitment to objectivity and nonpartisanship. He pledged the association’s support for initiatives that promote unity and development in Kwara.
