Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has expressed excitement over the take-off of two major Chinese investments valued at $35 million, describing them as a major boost to the state’s industrialisation and economic growth agenda.
The investments include a $20 million lithium processing factory and a pharmaceutical manufacturing company valued at over $15 million, both promoted by ER-KANG Company Limited.
Speaking during a meeting with the Governor, Sun Qing Rong, Team Lead of ER-KANG Company Limited, announced that the lithium factory has been completed and is already operational. He explained that the facility processes lithium into finished materials rather than exporting it in its raw form, in line with the state government’s policy on value addition and local manufacturing.
Rong disclosed that the lithium plant currently employs over 300 workers, the majority of whom are indigenes of Kwara State. He also revealed that preparations for the pharmaceutical company have been concluded, with construction expected to commence this year.
According to him, the pharmaceutical factory will be developed in two phases, comprising large infusion and small-volume injection production workshops, aimed at addressing shortages of essential pharmaceutical products in the Nigerian market.
“This is one of the fruits of the meeting we held with His Excellency in Beijing about two years ago. Today, the lithium plant is completed and fully operational, and this year we are starting the pharmaceutical company with the support of the Kwara State Government,” Rong said.
He commended Governor AbdulRazaq for providing what he described as an outstanding investment environment, adding that ER-KANG is committed to corporate social responsibility within its host communities. He also disclosed plans to partner with the state government on the proposed industrial park.

Other members of the ER-KANG delegation included the company’s lawyer, Barrister Ibrahim Atanda; Project Architect, Arch. Sayi Yekeen; Quality Control Supervisor, Shuai Hai Tao; Factory Manager, Cao Zheng Hai; Pharmaceutical Manager, Xie Chuan Li; and Administrative Manager, Mi Guang Hua.
