The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abuja during the 2027 general election will be extremely difficult.
Wike made the statement on Tuesday in Abuja after inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across satellite communities. He noted that the administration’s focus on expanding development beyond the city centre has significantly improved living conditions for residents.
“It will be very hard for anyone to defeat the president in the FCT,” Wike said.
In the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi of the Labour Party won the Federal Capital Territory, defeating Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obi secured 281,717 votes, while Tinubu polled 90,902, and Atiku came third with 74,199 votes.

However, Wike emphasized that the current administration has shifted its strategy by prioritizing development in rural and satellite areas of Abuja, rather than focusing solely on the city centre.
According to him, this approach is already yielding results, with improved road networks and infrastructure enhancing mobility and economic activity. He added that residents can now commute more easily from areas like Kuje to the city centre within a short time.
Wike concluded that the growing satisfaction among residents could translate into stronger electoral support for the president in the next election cycle.
