The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will officially join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, March 30, 2026.
According to a statement released by the movement, Kwankwaso will complete his formal registration at 12 p.m. at his residence in Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located on Miller Road in Kano State.
The announcement marks a significant political development, as the movement also directed its members nationwide to begin registering with the ADC at their respective ward, local government, and state levels.
Spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Sale Mohammed, said the decision was reached after careful consideration and aligns with the group’s commitment to strengthening democratic values and promoting inclusive governance.
“We remain dedicated to the progress of our state and the country at large,” he stated.
“This strategic move is aimed at reinforcing democratic ideals and ensuring leadership that truly reflects the aspirations of the people.”

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, widely known for its strong political base in Kano State, has been closely tied to Kwankwaso’s leadership over the years.
His planned defection to the ADC is expected to reshape existing political alignments and generate fresh momentum within the party.
Mohammed further emphasized that the move reflects the collective will of the people, noting that safeguarding democracy remains a top priority for the movement.
Members were also encouraged not only to register with the ADC but to actively engage in party activities and contribute to its growth across all levels.
Political observers say the development could have far-reaching implications as Nigeria gradually builds momentum toward future elections, with Kwankwaso’s next steps likely to draw national attention.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the unity and determination of the movement, describing the decision as the beginning of a new political chapter.
“We are united and resolute in our mission to build a better Nigeria that prioritizes the welfare of its people,” he said. “This marks the start of a new journey for us all.”
