The Conglomerate of Kwara Christian Communities (CKCC) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to support the emergence of a Christian as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Kwara State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appeal was contained in a letter dated June 27, 2026, and jointly signed by Rev. Felix Ajide, Ambassador Samson Abomire, Dr. David Olayemi, and Engr. Patrick Agbejokha.
In the letter, the group noted that despite Christians accounting for about 49 percent of Kwara State’s population, the community has not produced a governor since 1999.
According to CKCC, the call is anchored on the principles of equity, fairness, inclusion, and justice in the political representation of the state.
The group argued that politics remains a “game of numbers” and urged the President to support what it described as a “Christian brother” for the state’s top seat in 2027, insisting this would promote broader inclusion and stability.
It further claimed that opposition parties have not adequately responded to longstanding Christian agitation for a Christian governor in the state.
“We, the Christian Society of Kwara State, plead with Your Excellency to consider and support a Christian brother to occupy the number one seat of Kwara State come 2027 through the bulk votes of indigenes and non-indigenes,” the letter read in part.
The group also expressed confidence in delivering significant electoral support if their request is considered.
“Out of about 49% Christian population in Kwara State, we promise 38.5% of our votes if a Christian is given the APC governorship ticket,” the group stated.
CKCC further referenced past electoral outcomes in the state, noting that different administrations since 1999 have emerged under both Muslim and Christian support blocs, including the late Governor Muhammad Alabi Lawal, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, Dr. Abdulfatai Ahmed, and the incumbent Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The group said it is willing to collaborate with Muslim communities in the state to ensure electoral success for the APC in 2027, describing the proposal as a path toward unity and balanced representation.
