The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports suggesting that Vice President Kashim Shettima may be replaced as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing such claims as speculative and unfounded.
In a statement issued on Monday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said the growing media reports had created unnecessary tension and confusion within the polity.
Morka noted that while earlier reports were subtle, recent narratives had escalated to the point where specific individuals were being mentioned as potential replacements for the Vice President.
“The stories are purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” the APC spokesman said, urging media organisations to refrain from giving credibility to what he described as rumours promoted by “mischievous news sources of questionable provenance.”

He stressed that under existing laws and electoral regulations, the ban on political activities remains in force, adding that discussions around the 2027 elections were premature.
According to him, the party’s current priority is to support President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in the delivery of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the economic reforms aimed at transforming the economy, building prosperity, and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.
Morka also cautioned ministers, senior government officials, and party leaders against making statements that could fuel speculation, whether deliberately or inadvertently.
He urged them to remain focused on their core responsibility of effective service to the government and the party, while consolidating the achievements of the Tinubu-led administration.
The APC reiterated its commitment to unity and discipline within the party as it continues to back what it described as the visionary leadership of President Tinubu.
