Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed speculations that he may defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that he remains firmly rooted in the opposition party.
Makinde spoke after a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, amid growing reports of defections by some PDP governors and party leaders to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Responding to questions on whether he was considering a move to the APC, the governor ruled out such a possibility, stressing that his loyalty to the PDP remains unwavering.
“I’m comfortable in the PDP,” Makinde said.

The governor, however, noted that certain national challenges require bipartisan cooperation in the overall interest of the country, regardless of party affiliations.
According to him, there are moments when collaboration across party lines becomes necessary to address pressing national issues.
“We may have issues in this country where you need a bipartisan approach. It won’t be a situation of APC talking alone or PDP talking alone,” he said.
“At such moments, we must look at what is best for the nation. When we get to that junction, everybody needs to be on board.”
Makinde’s meeting with President Tinubu comes amid increasing political consultations and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He remains one of the few governors elected on the platform of the PDP, as the party continues to grapple with internal challenges and defections.
