Former presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians to approach the 2027 general elections with utmost seriousness, describing it as a defining moment for the country’s future.
Kwankwaso made this appeal on Monday shortly after formally registering with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at his Miller Road residence. His move comes after his resignation from the NNPP, signaling a new political direction ahead of the next election cycle.
Addressing supporters, the former Kano State governor stressed the need for citizens to take responsibility for the nation’s direction by actively participating in the electoral process.
“These elections will be among the most important in our lifetime. Nigerians must rise to the occasion and free the country from misgovernance,” he said, urging voters to show commitment and determination on election day.

Kwankwaso also emphasized the importance of proper political and electoral registration, stating that only individuals with valid ADC membership and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registration would be allowed into his residence, as a way of encouraging grassroots mobilization.
In his remarks, the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, described Kwankwaso’s defection as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
According to him, the development reflects a growing unity among opposition figures determined to reposition the country.
“Today is not just about welcoming a new member; it marks a renewed commitment to building a stronger, more united Nigeria,” Mark said. “His decision to join the ADC is a clear response to calls for opposition leaders to come together and present a formidable front in defense of our democracy.”
He added that Kwankwaso’s entry into the party, alongside his supporters, reinforces the ADC’s vision of national unity, good governance, and inclusive progress.
