United States (US) President, Donald Trump, has warned that the US could carry out additional military strikes in Nigeria if attacks against Christians persist.
Trump made the remark in an interview with The New York Times, where he said he would prefer a single military action but would not rule out repeated strikes if the killings continue.
“I’d love to make it a one-time strike,” he said. “But if they continue to kill Christians, it will be a many-time strike.”
His comments followed reported US airstrikes carried out on Christmas Day against Islamic State (ISIS) elements operating in northwest Nigeria. Trump described the operation as a “gift” to the terrorists.
According to US military sources, the strikes were conducted in coordination with Nigerian authorities and resulted in the deaths of multiple ISIS fighters.

The Nigerian government, however, has rejected claims that Christians are being systematically targeted, insisting that violence in the country affects both Muslims and Christians. Authorities maintain that extremist groups have attacked communities across religious lines.
President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to protecting all Nigerians, regardless of faith, and emphasized that the government remains focused on tackling insecurity and safeguarding lives nationwide.
