The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that candidates who do not support President Bola Tinubu will not be allowed to win in the upcoming FCT Area Council elections scheduled for February 21.
Wike made the statement in Abuja during the 60th birthday celebration of Senator Sandy Onor, insisting he owes no one an apology for his position.
According to him, political loyalty to President Tinubu’s re-election bid will determine who gets his support, regardless of party affiliation.
“I have a duty to support any candidate that supports President Tinubu to win, and to ensure that those who do not support him do not win,” Wike said.
The 2026 FCT Area Council elections will be held across the six area councils, with voting set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says about 1.68 million registered voters are eligible to participate. Voters will elect council chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and councillors across 68 constituencies.
INEC has confirmed the deployment of the IReV portal for real-time result viewing to boost transparency.
