Hundreds of supporters from across political divides on Tuesday stormed the GRA residence of former federal lawmaker, Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM), in Ilorin, urging him to pitch his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The supporters, drawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the PDP as a viable platform capable of delivering good governance and repositioning Kwara State for sustainable development.
Speaking on behalf of PDP members in Alanamu Ward, Alhaji Abosi Oyoyan expressed the party’s readiness to receive the former Federal Lawmaker, describing him as a seasoned politician and long-time ally of the party’s leadership.
He noted that despite political differences over the years, MM had remained respectful and never spoke ill of the PDP leader, Senator (Dr.) Bukola Saraki.
Also speaking, a representative of Team MM in Alanamu ward, Alhaji Otubu, commended Hon. MM’s sacrifices and contributions to the ruling party, lamenting that his loyalty had been met with betrayal and political victimization.
He, however, reaffirmed the unflinching support of Hon. MM’s followers, stating that they were prepared to follow him to any political platform of his choice.
Responding to the overwhelming calls, Hon. MM appreciated the show of solidarity and confidence reposed in him. He acknowledged the significance of the moment and assured his supporters that their voices would not be ignored.
“In view of the respect and regard I have for my supporters, I will align with your position and take the necessary steps towards joining the PDP,” the Isale Aluko-born politician stated.
He further disclosed that the formal defection, alongside his supporters, would be concluded before the end of the week.
The development is widely seen as a significant political shift that could reshape the dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections in Kwara State.
