A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Wakilin of Ilorin Emirate, Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM), has rewarded some of his long-standing supporters with cars and cash gifts worth millions of naira as part of activities marking the Maulud Nabiyy celebration in Ilorin, Kwara State.
The gesture was made during the Maulud celebration hosted by MM at his GRA, Ilorin residence, where PDP leaders, stakeholders, political associates and supporters from across the state gathered to celebrate with him.
As part of the event, MM presented cars and cash gifts of ₦250,000 each to some of his long-standing supporters in recognition of their loyalty and commitment to his political family.
Among those who received the car-and-cash rewards were Alhaji Gani Jaji, Alhaji Muyideen Ikolaba and Alhaji Tunde Aluko.
In addition, more than 25 other loyal supporters received cash gifts ranging from ₦500,000 to ₦1 million each.
The beneficiaries were not the only ones who received gestures of goodwill, as attendees at the celebration were also treated to food, drinks and snacks. Guests also went home with packs of rice and cash gifts.
The gesture further highlighted MM’s continued relationship with members of his political family, particularly supporters who have remained loyal to him through different stages of his political career.
Despite his absence from public office, the former member of the House of Representatives has continued to support his associates and constituents through personal initiatives and empowerment programmes.
MM Urges Supporters to Remain Committed to PDP
Speaking at the gathering, MM acknowledged the loyalty and sacrifices of his supporters over the years, expressing appreciation for their steadfastness throughout his political journey.
He also addressed recent developments within the PDP, particularly the outcome of the party’s senatorial ticket process, urging his supporters to remain calm and committed to the party.
MM said he understood the disappointment felt by many of his supporters but had decided to accept the party’s decision in the interest of the larger good.
“I am aware of how painful the decision concerning the senatorial ticket has been to many of my supporters. But the developments of the past have taught me many lessons. Disrupting the house will not be the best solution. To this end, I am wholeheartedly at peace with the decision of the party.”
He urged his supporters to regard the development as part of the political process and continue working with the PDP towards victory in the 2027 general elections.
MM also declared that he remained at peace with the leadership of the party under former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, whom he described as a leader committed to the interests of the people.
PDP Commends Mashood Mustapha’s Sportsmanship
The Kwara State Working Committee of the PDP was represented at the event by the Kwara Central Senatorial District Chairman, Alhaji Ishaq Owolabi Obalukan.
Obalukan commended MM for what he described as an exceptional display of sportsmanship, statesmanship and responsive leadership, particularly in the wake of the recent political developments within the party.
He praised the PDP chieftain for choosing unity and the collective interest of the party despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the senatorial ticket.
“We are extremely happy and proud of the maturity and sportsmanship demonstrated by Hon. Mashood Mustapha. The ability to make sacrifices and remain committed to the larger interest of the party, even in the face of difficult political decisions, is what distinguishes a true leader. We commend him for his love for the leadership of our great party and his decision to prioritise unity.”
The Maulud Nabiyy celebration, which attracted PDP leaders, stakeholders, political associates and supporters from different parts of Kwara State, ultimately served as both a religious gathering and an opportunity for MM to appreciate those who have remained committed to his political journey.
The occasion also reinforced the former federal lawmaker’s message of loyalty, unity and continued commitment to the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
