The Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) has commended Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his swift intervention following a motor accident involving four of its members along the Alapa Road in Asa Local Government Area of the state.
The journalists, who sustained minor injuries in the accident, were travelling to Alapa on Sunday for an official assignment when the incident occurred.
In a statement issued on Sunday, ASKOMP Chairman, Salihu Shola Taofeek, expressed appreciation to the governor for ensuring that the affected journalists received medical attention, with their medical bills settled and cash support provided.
He said the gesture demonstrated the governor’s concern for the welfare of media practitioners in the state.
“We appreciate His Excellency, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for supporting our members involved in a motor accident today by clearing their medical bills and releasing cash support. This further confirms that the Governor is media-friendly and compassionate.”
Those involved in the accident are Aiyelabegan Babatunde Abdulrasaq of Just Event Online Publications (JEO), Saeed Tijjani of 9jaParrot, and Umar Umar and Isiaq Sulyman Kayode of Trove Online Media.
The affected journalists are currently receiving treatment at the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Ilorin.
The intervention was facilitated by the former Chief Press Secretary to the Governor and APC House of Representatives candidate, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, who facilitated the payment of the journalists’ medical bills, while the Senior Special Assistant on Communications to the Governor, Ibraheem Abdullateef, facilitated the cash support.
ASKOMP expressed gratitude to all those who responded to the incident and wished the affected journalists a speedy and full recovery.
