Team MM has confirmed that a meeting took place in Saudi Arabia between Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State and Hon. Mashood Mustapha (MM), the Wakilin of Ilorin Emirate, while dismissing reports suggesting that the engagement was about one party seeking favours from the other.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Team MM described such narratives as unfounded, inaccurate and disrespectful to both political leaders.
The group said political engagements and realignments across party lines were part of the democratic process, stressing that the meeting should not be viewed as unusual given the current political climate.
According to the statement, Hon. Mashood Mustapha remains a prominent figure in Kwara politics whose influence and contributions to the state’s political landscape cannot be overlooked.
Team MM also disclosed that MM had met with some Kwara political stakeholders in Abuja before travelling to Saudi Arabia, noting that those meetings did not generate similar speculation.
The group further maintained that the Nigerian Constitution guarantees citizens the right to freedom of association and to make personal political choices, adding that political decisions should ultimately be guided by interests, principles and the aspirations of the people.
It said the welfare of MM’s supporters and the progress of Kwara State remained his major considerations.
Team MM stressed that MM, who is currently out of the country, had not taken any official position on the ongoing political permutations.
“Hon. MM is currently out of the country and has not taken any official position regarding the ongoing political permutations,” the statement said, adding that the politician understood the importance of making political decisions thoughtfully and at the appropriate time.

The group assured supporters that MM would not take any major political decision without carefully considering their interests and aspirations.
“When the time comes to make any decision, his supporters will undoubtedly be among the first to know,” Team MM stated.
The group consequently urged stakeholders, supporters and members of the public to remain calm and allow the political process to unfold naturally.
It also prayed for divine guidance, wisdom and strength for MM as he continues to contribute to the development of Kwara State.
